Lindsay Lohan and her brother Michael have been accused of stealing the idea for a fashion e-commerce site and app.
In 2013, the actress and her sibling are said to have agreed to a deal with an entrepreneur named Fima Potik to help him with Spotted Friend, a mobile app that lets users look at the “virtual closets” of their friends and celebrities in order to buy items they like.
Lohan tweeted about Spotted Friend in July 2013, but at some point she, Michael and Potik apparently parted ways.
Last month, it was reported that Michael Lohan, Jr. was raising funds for a venture called Vigme, which is described as a “social shopping community” and seems to share certain characteristics with Spotted Friend.
According to the New York Post, the Lohans and business partner Christopher Roth have now been hit with a cease-and-desist letter from Potik, whose attorney is threatening to take action if they don’t stop their involvement with the new “virtual closets”-centered app.
The letter reads: “In 2014, after being members of the company for over a year, without any warning, the Lohans and Mr. Roth launched a competing company and improperly took proprietary information and intellectual property from Spotted Friend to start the new business.”
“We intend to take all action necessary… to protect Spotted Friend’s and Mr. Potik’s legal rights and commercial interests,” continues the cease-and-desist.
Lohan’s own attorney denies any wrongdoing.
“Allegations of any impropriety in Lindsay Lohan’s business relationship concerning this Web site are inaccurate and clearly designed to capitalize on her worldwide recognition as a fashion icon,” he says.
