Taylor Swift has finally explained why she revealed her previously hidden belly button during a recent vacation in Hawaii. While being interviewed Tuesday on BBC Radio’s “Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw, Swift said she didn’t want to publicly expose her navel to the world, but was forced to by the paparazzi. Listen to audio below.
As Extreme Entertainment reported, while vacationing with the Haim sisters in January, Swift posed for a number of photos in a bikini that she shared on social media, featuring her mysterious belly button. In November, Swift said, “I don’t like showing my belly button.” She further stated, “I don’t want people to know if I have one or not. I want that to be a mystery, adding, “It could be pierced. They have no idea. If I’m going to get some sort of massive tattoo, it’s going to be right next to my belly button because no one’s ever going to see that.”
But two months later she posted bikini pictures to Instagram, and now is saying it wasn’t her preference. Swift told Grimshaw that she’s “always checking” for paparazzi and knows how to “spot a lens… a mile away,” but apparently while she and the Haim sisters were whale watching, they too were being watched from a distance further than a mile. Swift said, “Basically, on the last day [of their vacation] we see a fishing boat a half a mile away. We were like, ‘That’s a little weird. We’re in the middle of the ocean scuba diving.’ My security gets out binoculars and sees that they have a huge long-lens camera. At which point, we go back to the beach and we realize, ‘Okay so they got pictures of us in our bikinis, like I don’t want them to make like $100,00 for stalking us’… So we’re like, ‘Get up on the bow of the boat, we’re taking better bikini shots, so they don’t make as much money on theirs.’”
Swift went on to note that the paparazzi in Hawaii are “crazy” stealthy, and sometimes shoot celebrities as far away as three miles away. Listen to Swift’s reasoning for finally showing her belly button at around the 7:15 mark and tell us what you think.
