Michael Keaton was seemingly caught on camera putting his acceptance speech back in his jacket pocket after Eddie Redmayne was announced as the winner in the Best Actor category at the Oscars in a new Vine video that’s gone viral. Watch below.
Redmayne’s turn as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything wound up beating Keaton’s acclaimedBirdman performance for the Oscar. As soon as Cate Blanchett read Redmayne’s name, Keaton can be seen in the audience putting a piece of paper into his pocket.
“Saddest moment of the night was Michael Keaton putting his speech back in his pocket after realizing he lost #Oscars #oscars2015,” wrote the eagle-eyed Vine user who posted the clip. And while Keaton’s sadness seems overstated (after all, he seemed happy later in the night when Birdman took home Best Picture), it does indeed seem like a disappointed Keaton is hiding his never-to-be-read acceptance speech in the footage.
Regardless, both Keaton and Redmayne both enjoyed an exciting and honor-filled awards season. And for Keaton, there’s always next year. Birdman Returns, maybe? Did you agree with the Academy’s decision to give the trophy to Redmayne? Watch the video below, and tell us what you think.
