Kanye West did more community service than required to fulfill the plea deal stemming from his paparazzi battery case.
As Extreme Entertainment reported, West attacked paparazzo Daniel Ramos at LAX in the summer of 2013. He pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery in March 2014, and was sentenced to 250 hours of community service, anger management therapy, and 24 months of probation. Now a year and a half later, it was revealed at a court hearing on Tuesday that West has satisfied much of the agreement’s requirements.
West ultimately did 262 hours of community service by assisting the Los Angeles Trade Technical College’s fashion design program. The dean even wrote a letter on the rapper’s behalf, which was submitted to the court by West’s attorney. “The contribution of the hands-on community service Mr. West has completed with our school has been of great benefit to our students and program,” the dean’s letter read in part, according to TMZ.
Extreme Entertainment first reported West was doing his community service at the school last year, and he gave a graduation speech there this past May. That came two months after West settled a lawsuit Ramos had filed against him. The settlement was said to include an apology from West, but it wasn’t revealed if any money changed hands.
But though West has now more than fulfilled the community service aspect, he will still remain on informal probation for a few more months. Barring any future incidents, the case would be closed next year. West himself did not attend the hearing in person, as he is currently in New York for Fashion Week, and will be presenting a show on Wednesday.
