Pete Davidson Defends Steve Rannazzisi Over 9/11 Lie

Pete Davidson, the “Saturday Night Live” star whose father was killed on September 11, poked fun at and even defended Steve Rannazzisi, “The League” star who admitted on Wednesday to fabricating a 9/11 survival story. As Extreme Entertainment reported, Davidson paid a Twitter tribute on the 14th anniversary of 9/11 to his late dad, a firefighter whose FDNY unit got stuck in the World Trade Center.
Davidson initially tweeted to Rannazzisi, “It’s ok @SteveRannazzisi people make mistakes … Can’t wait to meet my dad for lunch later.” Apparently, Rannazzisi didn’t realize that Davidson was joking when he said he planned to “meet my dad for lunch,” as the actor wrote back, “Thank you Pete. I really appreciate it,” to which the “SNL” star responded, “I think you missed the point.”
But Davidson later legitimately came to the actor’s defense, tweeting, “Unfortunately this is a very touchy topic very near n dear 2 peoples hearts. Its years later but he apologized n owned up 2 it like a man.” Davidson added, “All kidding aside this @SteveRannazzisi story sucks because he’s actually a funny comic and I love ‘The League.’ It’s f*cked up.”
And after speaking with Rannazzisi personally, Davidson wrote, “Take it easy on @SteveRannazzisi … He reached out to me and is truly sorry. We all sometimes lie and exaggerate a story to seem cooler.”
