Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez are not starring in a movie reboot of the ’70s sitcom “Laverne & Shirley,“ despite a fabricated report from one of this week’s tabloids. Extreme Entertainment can exclusively bust this rumor. We’re told it’s “not true.”
According to In Touch, the real-life friends will co-star in a film remake of the TV series that chronicled the dating lives and friendship between the two co-workers and roommates. “Taylor is playing Laverne and has been working with a dialect coach to nail that Brooklyn accent,” claims a so-called “source” for the tabloid. The alleged insider adds that Swift and Gomez aren’t worried about their younger fans not being familiar with the original show, because the pop stars “think they can make a film everyone will love.”
We have repeatedly busted In Touch for creating tales about both Swift and Gomez, and this latest story is similarly false. In December 2014, we called out the magazine for a body shaming article that wrongly claimed Swift was enhancing her behind to score a new boyfriend. We also recently corrected a report in the tabloid that inaccurately alleged Gomez had discovered naked photos of Kylie Jenner on Justin Bieber’s phone.
Regardless, Laverne & Shirley: The Movie will not be coming to a theater near you anytime soon, at least not with Swift and Gomez in the lead roles.
