Nicki Minaj is addressing her apparent feud with Miley Cyrus for the first time since the MTV Video Music Awards.
As Extreme Entertainment reported, a few days before Cyrus hosted the VMAs in August, she slammed Minaj in the New York Times for her criticism of the nominations and dust-up with Taylor Swift. She accused the rapper of starting a “pop star against pop star war,” and called Minaj “not too kind.” Then, during the VMA ceremony, Minaj infamously yelled to the host, “Back to this bitch who had a lot to say about me the other day in the press. Miley, what’s good?”
There was a lot of debate over the next few days as to whether Minaj was being serious and if Cyrus was as taken aback as she appeared. The rapper now suggests in her ownNew York Times interview that it was indeed the real deal. She tells the newspaper’s magazine, “I saw [Cyrus] just looking at me, with her face screwed up, and I thought, What the!”
Minaj goes on to say about her fellow singer’s remarks, “The fact that you feel upset about me speaking on something that affects black women makes me feel like you have some big balls. You’re in videos with black men, and you’re bringing out black women on your stages, but you don’t want to know how black women feel about something that’s so important?”
“Come on, you can’t want the good without the bad. If you want to enjoy our culture and our lifestyle, bond with us, dance with us, have fun with us, twerk with us, rap with us, then you should also want to know what affects us, what is bothering us, what we feel is unfair to us. You shouldn’t not want to know that,” argues Minaj.
