Kesha, who has openly struggled with an eating disorder, is once again the victim of body shaming, this time from MediaTakeOut.
The webloid exclaims in a headline, “Pop Singer Kesha Is Photo’d In A BIKINI… And Her Body Is BEYOND Tragic… And Her BOOTY IMPLANTS AIN’T HELP!!!” Along with photos of the singer in a bikini while on vacation, the accompanying story states, “The paparazzi snuck a few pics of Kesha and her boyfriend lounging around a hotel pool — and her body looked terrible. It’s not like Kesha is fat — it’s just her shape. She’s built like a RUBIK’S CUBE!!”
This kind of judgment is exactly what contributes to eating disorders and body image problems in the first place. And while this content would be objectionable no matter who the star, it’s mind-boggling that MediaTakeOut saw no problem running such a piece about someone who has been so candid about physical and mental health issues. Of course, MTO sees no problem with many offensive stories, which is why it recently likened EJ Johnson to a “trans-prostitute.”
Kesha wears a bikini regardless of her shape and size because she is confident, as she should be. And she doesn’t shy away from standing up to those who try to shame her. As Extreme Entertainment reported earlier this month, the star hit back at one body bully on Instagram, writing, “Bullying someone who has struggled publicly with body issues is pretty mean. thank god I’m in a place in my life where I feel empowered to address your nasty comments instead of letting them destroy me. so. on behalf of anyone anywhere who struggles with body image, STOP IT. my body is not your business.”
Kesha added, “In conclusion, kiss my magical imperfect ass.” MediaTakeOut should heed that message, too.
