Brad Pitt is under investigation for child abuse, which is what led Angelina Jolie to file for divorce. Here is what we know so far.
As Extreme Entertainment reported, Jolie filed for divorce this past Monday, listing the couple’s separation date as September 15. It has now emerged that on September 14, there was an incident with Pitt onboard a private plane with Jolie and their children. Specifically, he is accused of becoming verbally and physically abusive towards at least one of the kids while under the influence of alcohol.
An anonymous call was made to the Department of Child and Family Services, which prompted the investigation. The Los Angele Police Department is investigating the situation as well. A source close to Pitt maintains that he did not commit any actual abuse.
Still, the allegations shed new light on Jolie’s decision to divorce Pitt, and why she requested sole physical custody. It also backs up prior reports that said at issue were differing parenting styles and his alcohol use. When the split was announced earlier this week, an attorney for Jolie said in a statement, “This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time.”
Pitt later released his own statement, saying, “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.” Jolie herself has not personally spoken out.
