Matt Lauer is NOT getting fired from the “Today” show over his much-criticized performance as moderator of the presidential forum, despite an inaccurate tabloid report. Extreme Entertainment can exclusively correct this claim. We’re told it’s “not true at all.”
As Extreme Entertainment reported, NBC hosted Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in the first-ever Commander-In-Chief Forum earlier this month. The event was moderated by Lauer, who received a ton of negative backlash over his interviews with both presidential candidates. Many critics accused the news anchor of mishandling the forum by, in their opinions, going too easy on Trump and spending too much time interrogating Clinton about her email scandal. Many Twitter users also lashed out at Lauer, accusing the anchor of being unfair, disorganized and even sexist.
In light of the controversy, the National Enquirer is now falsely claiming NBC executives want Lauer off the “Today” show, which he’s co-anchored for nearly 20 years. A so-called “source” tells the magazine, “To be so ill-prepared for a major news event is being viewed as inexcusable, and his head could roll.” The outlet’s dubious insider further claims the anchor “could be gone by the end of 2016.”
But Extreme Entertainment checked in with a “Today” show spokesperson, who exclusively assures us producers have no intention of firing Lauer, and the tabloid’s claim otherwise is “not true at all.” Unfortunately, we’re not surprised by the magazine’s inaccurate report. Extreme Entertainment recently called out the Enquirer for a cover story falsely alleging Lauer was in a cocaine scandal. There was no truth to that story, and the same goes for this latest one about the news anchor.
