Sal Valentinetti performed “Mack The Knife” during the final round of “America’s Got Talent” on Tuesday. Watch below!
As Gossip Cop has reported, Valentinetti is an aspiring singer who first tried his luck with “American Idol” in 2014. He failed to make it past Hollywood Week, but has much more success on “AGT.” In fact, Heidi Klum loved his audition so much, she gave the crooner her Golden Buzzer advantage, sending him straight to the quarterfinals.
There, however, Valentinetti got mixed reviews for putting a big band spin on One Direction’s “Story Of My Life.” He ended up in jeopardy, but was spared elimination after winning the Dunkin’ Save. The contestant’s semifinal performance of “That’s Life” went over much better, and he earned enough votes to make it into tonight’s finals.
And now for his last chance to impress, Valentinetti opened the two-hour broadcast with “Mack The Knife.” The performer managed to include references to all the judges and even host Nick Cannon in a revamp of the lyrics. It led to a standing ovation from the entire panel.
“I’m just so happy for you,” Klum told Valentinetti. “I really am, because you just blew us all away. You have the most amazing velvety voice, the sparkly blue eyes. You have it all.” In response, Valentinetti thanked the supermodel for believing in him from the start.
Mel B said the contestant “smashed it,” “exuded personality and confidence,” and had his vocals “on point” with a “big note at the end.” Howie Mandel revealed he recently lamented that no one performs like Frank Sinatra anymore, until he realized, “You do shows like that.” He wento on, “It is amazing. I love that you just make us want to snap our fingers. You are the epitome of show business. What a way to launch the finals.”
And Simon Cowell said, “The only thing I don’t like about that performance is that it ended too quickly. I could’ve heard that all over again.” He even added, “This could upset the whole competition.” Check out the video below!
