Angelina Jolie has gone blonde for By the Sea, the upcoming movie she’s directing and starring in alongside Brad Pitt, their first on-screen collaboration since Mr. & Mrs. Smith a decade ago. The typically brunette bombshell wears a dirty blonde wig in the new photos, taken in Malta, where the real-life couple has been shooting in recent weeks.
According to the official By the Seaproduction plot summary, the movie is “set in France during the mid-1970s. Vanessa, a former dancer, and her husband Roland, an American writer, travel the country together. They seem to be growing apart, but when they linger in one quiet, seaside town they begin to draw close to some of its more vibrant inhabitants, such as a local bar/café-keeper and a hotel owner.”
In a recent interview, Pitt joked about how his and Jolie’s filming schedule in Malta following their much-discussed wedding felt like a “completely dysfunctional honeymoon.”
He said of the project, “It’s a really elegant kind of… sparse story that she has written about a dysfunctional couple. It’s really about grief, it’s a couple dealing with grief… and yes, this is our honeymoon. [Malta] is not a bad place to be, I’ll tell you that.”
