American Idol Recap: First Top 24 Contestants Revealed!

“American Idol” started revealing the Season 14 Top 24 on Wednesday’s episode. Find out which contestants have made the cut so far, and who was surprisingly eliminated!
As Extreme Entertainment reported, more than 200 contestants were given golden tickets to Hollywood after their initial auditions in cities across America. Hollywood Week was showcased over the last four episodes, with the judges evaluating and eliminating contestants after solo and group performances. Among those who were sent packing were the show’s first-ever drag queen contestant Dakota Suarez, Alexis Grace Granville, who, as Extreme Entertainment reported, fainted during the group round due to a panic attack, and quirky 15-year-old Katherine Skinner, who afterward noted that at her age, “I could come back, like, 20 times if I wanted to.”
By the time Hollywood Week was complete, 48 singers remained. In a new twist seen on Wednesday’s episode, each artist now had to take the stage at the House of Blues in Los Angeles for a performance in front of a live audience, after which the judges deliberated everyone’s fate, and let each contestant know one by one whether they made it into the Top 24. Exactly half of the singers went into the showcase knowing they wouldn’t make the cut.
Michael Simeon, the crooner who wooed Jennifer Lopez with a slow dance during his audition, continued to charm and, after now proving he could also rap, was the first to score one of the coveted Top 24 spots. 17-year-old Lovey James, who as Extreme Entertainment previously noted, amassed a small YouTube following before her audition, can officially add the judges to her group of fans now that they chose her to also go on to the next round.
Interestingly, 16-year-old country singer Maddie Walker was initially rejected, but then the panel had immediate regrets about their decision, and much to the teen’s surprise, brought her back for another chance via an on-the-spot sing-off with fellow contender Rachel Hallack. Walker ultimately won out, a crushing blow for Hallack, especially after the judges admitted they initially planned on keeping her until their last-minute doubts about eliminating Walker.
Early standouts Tyanna Jones, 16, and Rayvon Owen, were also welcomed into the Top 24, along with Lauren Lott, Adam Ezegelian, Adanna Duru, Clark Beckham, 15-year-old Daniel Seavey, Rayvon Owen, Shannon Berthiaume, and Jax. But the episode ended on a cliffhanger, with Hollywood Anderson’s fate hanging in the balance. As Extreme Entertainment reported, he was one of the biggest sensations in the audition round with his original song “My Best Friend,” but he went on to falter during Hollywood Week.
His result, and the rest of the Top 24, will be revealed on Thursday’s episode, leading to a final breakdown of 12 men and 12 women. What do you think of the results so far?
