Tegan and Sara, along with The Lonely Island guys, performed their hit “Everything Is Awesome” from The LEGO Movie at the Oscars, where it’s nominated for Best Song. Watch the video from the 2015 Academy Awards below!
The colorful, costume- and visual gag-filled performance, featuring cameos and plenty of energy, provided a lot of Academy Awards firsts, such as when dancers ran into the audience to award stars like Oprah Winfrey, Steve Carell and Channing Tatum with Oscars made out of LEGOS. Given how stuffy and predictable awards shows can often be, the over-the-top celebration of fun was a nice interlude. There were animated elements, animals, Batman, and plenty of other “awesome” things. “Everything you see or think or say is awesome!” declares the song, and it’s hard to disagree.
The theme to last year’s surprise hit The LEGO Movie, “Everything Is Awesome” was co-written by The Lonely Island, produced by music legend Mark Mothersbaugh (who also appeared in the Oscars performance) and performed by The Lonely Island and Tegan and Sara for the soundtrack version. It wound up landing on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and getting a Grammy nomination in addition to its Oscar nod. Watch the video from the Oscars below.
