Benicio Del Toro Defends Johnny Depp: Amber Heard Is ‘Manipulative,’ ‘Twisted’

Benicio Del Toro is the latest celebrity to come to Johnny Depp’s defense following Amber Heard’s domestic abuse allegations. In a new interview, the actor doubts the actress’s claims, describing his friend’s estranged wife as “manipulative” and “twisted.”
Del Toro has been good pals with Depp since the two co-starred together in 1998’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and the actor is now defending his friend’s character to the New York Daily News. He describes Depp as a “a nice guy, very caring, very smart,” before going on to question Heard’s moral standing. “What I know, there’s a lot of trouble from the girl that sounds a little manipulative,” Del Toro says. “It sounds a little bit like there’s something really twisted about that girl, but I don’t know the specifics.”
As Extreme Entertainment reported, Heard filed for divorce from Depp on May 23, just days after the actor’s mother died. Later that week, the actress obtained a restraining order against Depp, alleging that he had been physically abusive throughout their marriage. But Del Toro further questions Heard’s motives, saying, “His mom passed away and she filed for divorce two days later and then she wants money and she’s saying she got hit… I saw them not too long ago… and they were fine.”
Del Toro joins other celebrities, including Mickey Rourke, Paul Bettany and stand-up comedian Doug Stanhope, who have defended Depp against Heard’s domestic violence allegations. Also in Depp’s camp is his daughter Lily-Rose, as well as her mother Vanessa Paradis, with whom the actor had a 14-year relationship.
