Kevin Hart appeared on Wednesday’s “Good Morning America,” during which he discussed his new movie Central Intelligence, his friendship with co-star Dwayne Johnson, standing up against bullying and more. Watch the full “GMA” interview below!
“Everything on set was positive,” Hart said about working with Johnson on their new buddy action-comedy. “There was so much good energy. That chemistry is real. You can’t fake it.” In the film, Johnson plays a former high school nerd who was bullied for being overweight, but grew up to become a lethal CIA agent. “We wanted to address bullying in a way that we weren’t forcing it down people’s throats,” Hart noted about the plot point. “We wanted to do it in a unique way.”
Hart went on to acknowledge that bullying is “a problem,” but expressed that “the best way to address it is with a sincere message.” He explained, “And that’s to communicate what’s going on in your life and ultimately believe in yourself.” The actor-comedian added, “Regardless of where you are in life, it could always get better. It doesn’t have to get worse, but you have to be the one to understand that, and these are two characters that show you that.”
About his childhood, Hart admitted to being “a bad kid,” joking, “You don’t get to where I am now from not being bad and understanding, ‘Oh, you’re not supposed to do that.'” Hart was then played a videotaped message from Johnson, who divulged, “The one thing I wanted to tell you about Central Intelligence is that I am really good in the movie.” The former wrestler, who used to go by the name The Rock, then dismissively said that Hart was “great, he’s charming, he’s gonna make you laugh,” further rolling his eyes while calling his co-star “fantastic” and “great.” He ended, “I, however, am really good in the movie.”
Hart laughed and couldn’t help but agree, revealing that Johnson is actually the “comic relief” in the film, while he plays “the straight man.” The comedian said, “He did a great job of delivering the comedy, so I take my hat off to you.
