Mark Salling pleaded not guilty to receiving and possessing child pornography on Friday. In addition to posting $150,000 bail, of which $100,000 had to be his own money, the judge made the former “Glee” star surrender his passport. Salling also needs to wear a monitoring bracelet, and all his devices that connect to the Internet must be approved by federal authorities.
Salling appeared before a judge in Los Angeles, and responded to a number of questions before entering his not guilty plea. The actor, who was fired from Adi Shankar’s Gods And Secrets a few days ago, is set to be in court again in July. For the receiving of porn count, he faces five to 20 years in prison, if convicted. For the possession count, Salling could spend up to an additional 20 years behind bars.
As Extreme Entertainment reported last Friday, a federal grand jury indicted Salling for possessing and receiving child pornography. Officials reportedly found thousands of explicit images and videos on the “Glee” star’s laptop, as well as a flash drive, that showed children, some as young as 10 years old, engaged in sexual activities.
Salling was arrested last December when members of the LAPD’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force raided his home. At the time, they seizures his laptop, which allegedly contained more than a thousand pornographic videos and images of kids. His flash drive, which was uncovered during the search, also featured images of minors under the age of 12. The search warrant was executed following a tip from Salling’s former girlfriend.
