The annual Global Citizen Festival, now in its fifth year, rewards volunteer activists who have donated time and effort to aiding global causes. To gain entry to the concert, would-be attendees have to complete certain tasks and submit proof of their advocacy. And this year, approximately 60,000 people have earned tickets.
Now they’ll gather in Central Park in New York City for the outdoor event. And a slew of big-time artists have been lined up to provide the entertainment. The list includes Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Metallica, Major Lazer, Usher, Chris Martin, Eddie Vedder, Ellie Goulding, and Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens).
Demi Lovato is also slated to perform, stepping in for Selena Gomez, who pulled out of the show after deciding to take the rest of the year off to focus on her personal health. There will be celebrity appearances throughout the concert, with Hugh Jackman and wife Deborra-Lee Furness again serving as two of the hosts. Others scheduled to emcee various portions include Chelsea Handler, Neil Patrick Harris, and Salma Hayek.
