A Dutch magazine ran an article about Rihanna and her style and was titled “De Ni**a*B**ch.” Are you KIDDING me? Rihanna was not happyand shot back at the editor on twitter:
@evajackie I hope u can read english, because your magazine is a poor representation of the evolution of human rights! I find you disrespectful, and rather desperate…There are 1000′s of Dutch girls who would love to be recognized for their contributions to your country, you could have given them an article. Instead, u paid to print one degrading an entire race…
After some back and forth on twitter, Eva Hoeke quit as editor of Jackie Magazine. She released the following statement on Facebook:
‘I realize that my first reaction through Twitter, in which I indicated that it was a joke, has been an incomplete misrepresentation what me, and also the author of the article, meant. The term ‘ni**ab*tch’ came from Americaand all we did was describing a style of dress…[the article] had no racial motive at it’s basis… me and the publisherhave concluded that because my credibility is now affected, it is better… if I quit my job as editor-in-chief immediately…I realize that these errors – although without malicious intentions – are enough reason for leaving.’
Even if you listen to hip-hop music, I’ve never heard a style of dress described that way! What a mess.
