The "Twilight" panel moderator followed a Comic-Con official in paying tribute to the fandom and dedication of attendees like the late Gisela Gagliardi.
Before the Twilight Saga - Breaking Dawn Part 1 panel got underway in Hall H Thursday morning, Comic-Con officials paused to recognize Gisela Gagliardi, the Twilight fan who was killed in a car accident Tuesday.
Prior to the 11:45 start of the panel, a Comic-Con official took the stage and offered a somber if heartfelt tribute to the dedication of attendees like Gagliardi.
“The most important aspect of Comic-Con really is each and every one of you – the fans,” he observed. “It was really with tremendous shock that we learned of the tragic death of Gisela on Tuesday morning. Our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers on behalf of all of us at Comic-Con are extended to her family and loved ones.”
As he departed the stage, he introduced Wikia contributor Eric Moro, who paused from his duties as moderator of the panel to read a statement from Lionsgate and the filmmakers.
“Before we begin the show, we want to take a minute to honor the memory of Gisela Gagliardi, a friend we tragically lost here two days ago,” Moro said. “Gisela will always live in our hearts and memories, and we wish her family and friends our best in this difficult time.”
Moro went on to introduce the cast members from Breaking Dawn, but the words of his predecessor lingered in the air, reminding attendees to be safe while celebrating their favorite fantasy and pop-culture properties.
“This weekend is a celebration of comics and the popular arts,” he said. “Please take care of yourselves, keep a watch over your friends, and we hope you really do have a wonderful and fun time this weekend.”
