Diana Nyad accomplished something no one else has ever done — a 110-mile open water swim from Cuba to Florida.
And she did it at the age of 64.
“When i turned 60, I decided it really wasn’t about this swim or this record or the athletic feat of it — it was about, how do I want to live my life,” she tells Ellen DeGeneres.
“I want to get to the end with no regrets,” she says on Tuesday’s Ellen, “I want to be a bold person and a fierce person.”
The woman, who swam in the ocean nonstop for 53 hours and without the aid of a shark cage, adds, “We didn’t give up. Last year we didn’t make it. The year before we didn’t make it. In 1978, I didn’t make it. So what was it that made me say I just still believe? I think it’s a way to live life — it’s just to say it doesn’t matter how hard don’t ever give up!”
An inspiring message.
