Check out this new poster for the CW’s new show,
Reign!
Premiering TONIGHT on the CW, the show finds Mary, Queen of Scots (
Adelaide Kane) arriving in France with four close friends as her ladies-in-waiting, to meet and court her potential new husband, the Prince of France, Francis (
Toby Regbo). But the match isn’t signed and sealed, it depends more on politics, religion and secret agendas than affairs of the heart.
Ever since the show announcement, JJJ has been reading up on the Queen — but what about Prince Francis? Check out some facts we found out about him:
Prince Francis met Mary when he was four years old, after she was sent to France once a marriage agreement had been written for the two.
Although much shorter than Mary (who grew to 5’11″), the two royals got on well. Francis’ father, King Henry II was quoted as saying, “from the very first day they met, my son and she got on as well together as if they had known each other for a long time.”
His mother was Catherine de’ Medici, the Queen Consort. Her family is known throughout Italy as the de facto rulers of Florence who rose to power during their banking careers.
At 15, Francis was crowned King of France at Reims. The crown was so heavy that nobles had to hold it in place for him.
King Francis II died in 1560 after spending only 17 months on the throne. He suffered from a syncope before his death.
Reign premieres TONIGHT @ 9PM ET/PT on the CW!
