Robert Pattinson To Star In Harmony Korine’s The Trap With Star-Studded Cast

Robert Pattison is reportedly in talks to star in Harmony Korine’s new movie, The Trap.
According to multiple outlets, Idris Elba was just cast in the film’s lead as a replacement for the formerly-attached Jamie Foxx. The movie is said to be a revenge tale, with Elba playing a Miami-based gangster rap artist named Rico, whose former best friend Slim, portrayed by Benicio Del Toro, comes looking for revenge after taking the fall for a robbery more than a decade earlier. Fourteen years later, Slim is released on the eve of the Grammys to find Rico has not only met success, but is also married to his girlfriend and fathering his kid.
Pattinson would play Max, an “Uzi-wielding” surfer who helps Slim on his quest for vengeance. Al Pacino is in negotiations to play Slim’s probation officer, while James Franco is being eyed as Rico’s drug-addicted manager. Franco, of course, has a history with Korine, previously starring in the director’s 2012 film Spring Breakers. And, as Extreme Entertainment reported, Pattinson previously expressed interest in working with Korine. The actor told The Hollywood Reporter in a cover story last year that he cold-called the filmmaker to share his admiration, and they later had dinner, leading the “really nice” Korine to begin crafting a script for him. “He won’t even tell me what it’s about,” Pattinson said at the time.
Pattison’s potential deal for The Trap was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, which says Focus Features is looking at U.S. rights to the movie, while Lionsgate would handle international distribution, with a possible entry into the Cannes Film Festival. Like withSpring Breakers, Korine would again be handling both scripting and directing duties. What do you think of the project?
