Tracee Ellis Ross appeared on Thursday’s “GMA” in advance of the Emmys, for which she’s already made history just by being nominated. Check out the video below!
As Extreme Entertainment reported when the nominees were announced back in July, Ross received a nod for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for “Black-ish.” While well-deserved, what’s particularly noteworthy is that she is only the third black actress to ever be nominated in the category. On “Good Morning America,” Robin Robins pointed out, “We have to go back to Phylicia Rashad [on “The Cosby Show”] to see a black woman in a lead role on a comedy show being nominated as you are.”
“It’s bizarre, isn’t it?” Ross asked. “It does beg for a little bit of a ponderance of what exactly is happening. I think it’s a question for a lot of people to ask themselves, sort of what that’s about and why the stories are not being told and we’re not being represented in a way that’s actually a true reflection of how we are out in the world.”
Upon finding out she was nominated, Ross amusingly recalled, “I jumped up, ran around my dining room table, opened my front door, went in my courtyard and was running around. Then I was like, ‘What am I doing?! I have nowhere to go! Call somebody!’ I left my body. I was very excited.'” Watch the full interview below!
