Cannes 2012: Samuel Goldwyn Films Picks Up Gilles Bourdos' 'Renoir'

The film, which centers around the later years of the famous painter, will screen as the closing night film in the Un Certain Regard sidebar.

Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired U.S. rights to Gilles Bourdos’ Renoir, which will have its world premiere May 25 as the closing night film of the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard sidebar.
The film stars Michel Bouquet as the famed painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, who late in life finds a new muse in a young woman, Andree, played by Christa Theret, who becomes his last model.
“I was captivated by the script from the first page and cannot wait to bring this film to American audiences. Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s work speaks for itself – he is one of the most gifted painters the world has ever seen while his son Jean is one of the most important filmmakers of our time. We feel extremely fortunate to bring such indelible icons to life.” Peter Goldwyn, senior vp of acquisitions, said.
Goldwyn and Ian Puente, general counsel and VP, development, negotiated the deal with Carole Baraton and Antoine Zylberberg of Wild Bunch.
