Matt Lauer is NOT having an affair with Lara Spencer, despite a new National Enquirer report suggesting that a “too-close-for-comfort friendship” between the “Today Show” and “Good Morning America” hosts has rocked Lauer’s marriage. Extreme Entertainment can exclusively bust the story.
According to the tabloid, Lauer was “busted” by his wife Annette for “flirting up a storm” with Spencer. A so-called “insider” for the Enquirer describes a time when Spencer accidentally dialed Lauer and his wife answered.
“Lara was at an event when it occurred. She didn’t realize the button had been pressed. It called Matt, and Annette answered,” explains the tabloid source. “When Lara realized her phone had initiated the call, she put it up to her ear and heard a woman saying, ‘Hello, hello.'” Spencer hung up. Why the Enquirer thinks this apparent butt-dial is in any way relevant or incriminating is anyone’s guess. The magazine also doesn’t mention when this happened or where.
The Enquirer claims Spencer’s own marriage hasn’t curbed Lauer’s alleged advances. “Lara’s marriage has not stopped Matt lusting after her,” says a magazine source. A different Enquirer insider claims Annette is suspicious of Lauer’s “flirtatious relationship” with Spencer. “Matt just lights up whenever Lara is around, and they seem to share a lot of laughs,” says the outlet’s source. “Annette will go out of her way to avoid Lara on the social circuit, but she keeps her eye on Matt — for obvious reasons.”
If this all sounds like sensationalized nonsense from an outlet that’s been fabricating stories about Lauer for years… that’s because it is. It’s almost as though the Enquirer thought the only thing left to accuse Lauer of doing would be a romance with his rival morning show host. A source close to the situation tells Extreme Entertainment exclusively, “This is complete fiction. Matt Lauer and Lara Spencer barely know each other, and they do not communicate. It has been years since they’ve even been at the same event.”
Meanwhile, we hear Lauer, his wife and their children are currently on a family vacation this week. Other sources have seen Lauer and Annette having cozy dinners in Colorado. We think it’s time for the Enquirer to go back to the drawing board.
