Like a pack of tributes searching for Katniss and Peeta, Lionsgate is reportedly circling in on two possible directors to helm “The Hunger Games” sequel, “Catching Fire.”
According to the Los Angeles Times, Francis Lawrence (“Water for Elephants” and “I Am Legend”) and Bennett Miller (“Moneyball” and “Capote”) are the studio’s top two choices.
The pair reportedly beat out fellow directors Stephen Daldry (“Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close”), Tony Scott (“Unstoppable”) and
Tomas Alfredson (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”) to take over the coveted reigns left by exiting director Gary Ross.
A LA Times source claims that Lawrence has met with studio executives and is eager to take over the project.
The Austrian-born Lawrence is also an accomplished music video director who has worked with a slew of major music artist including Lady Gaga (“Bad Romance”), Justin Timberlake (“Cry Me a River” and “Rock Your Body “) and Britney Spears (“I’m A Slave 4 U” and “Circus”).
Miller, who was nominated for an Academy Award for “Capote,” has never worked on a special effects-laden big budget movie.
“Catching Fire” is slated to begin filming in August and will hit theaters on November 22, 2013.
