Mischa Barton became an “it” girl overnight thanks to her starring role on the on the 2003 Fox teen drama The O.C.
But that overnight stardom ended up leading her down a path of parties, jet-setting, substance abuse and an eventual mental breakdown.
“It was terrifying,” Barton said. “Straight out of ‘Girl, Interrupted.’ Story of my life.”
Barton said in an interview with People magazine that she was totally unprepared for the pressure that would come with the fame she rocketed to on the The O.C. when she was just 16-years-old.
“I was never suicidal,” she told People. “I was just overworked and depressed. But one slip of the tongue in a heightened moment and you find yourself in that situation.” She was hospitalized for a mental breakdown in 2009.
The 27-year-old is now happy and healthy and calls London her home base.
