Anti-Kardashians signs that read “No Kardashian Parking Anytime” have been posted throughout Hollywood, a stunt by an artist who goes by the name Plastic Jesus. See the photos, which were shared on Instagram, below.
The seven postings were nailed onto street poles featuring official parking signs, and look a lot like the real deal. Of course, they’re completely fake and weren’t sanctioned by anyone associated with the City of Los Angeles. There’s even one hanging right outside the Kardashians’ DASH boutique. Interestingly, however, the LAPD tells The Hollywood Reporter that no one has filed any complaints about the illegal work.
Plastic Jesus himself tells the outlet that he was inspired to make the signs after witnessing the paparazzi attention surrounding one of the Kardashian sisters on an L.A. street. “I guarantee that same number of paparazzi was far greater than any number of photographers chasing real news,” he says. He further complains, “The Kardashian family has become ingrained in our culture. We’ve allowed mainstream media to become so profit-driven, we are sacrificing genuine news stories to satiate our vapid celebrity obsessions.”
Plastic Jesus is also responsible for other stunts including the cocaine-snorting Oscar statue outside the Academy Awards earlier this year, and the “Stop Making Stupid People Famous” campaign, which the artist says is a critique not just of the Kardashians, but also consumers. “Without us, there would be no market for the Kardashians. We are equally, if not more so, to blame,” he tells THR.
Plastic Jesus even predicts, “The same people who will be tagging these photos on social are the same people who will be buying In Touch at the supermarket later this week.” So, what do the Kardashians think of the signs? One source close to the family dismissed the stunt to Extreme Entertainment, saying it’s just “an artist trying to get famous.” Check out the pictures Plastic Jesus made embeddable on Instagram below, and tell us what you think.
