“#HappyBirthdayZayn” became one of the top trending topics on Twitter on Tuesday as fans celebrated Zayn Malik’s 23rd birthday.
“Happy birthday hero,” tweeted one Malik supporter. Another wrote, “23 years with that smile that can save millions of lives every single day.” And someone else said to the singer, “Hoping your day will be as special as you are.”
A different individual posted, “Happy 23rd birthday, we love you z.” Many shared photos of Malik through the years, including shots from when he was the “most beautiful child in the world.” And a few even showed off birthday cakes they had prepared in his honor.
This is the first birthday in years that Malik will spend as a non-member of One Direction. The group formed in 2010, and it’s been a wild ride ever since, with each year getting crazier and crazier. And now Malik is coming off what may be his craziest year yet.
The British star infamously quit One Direction in March 2015, and each month since, fans have been recognizing the date with trends on social media. Malik broke up with fiancée Perrie Edwards last July, started working on a solo career, and began dating Gigi Hadid in December. 2016 kicked off less than two weeks ago with Malik and Hadid still a couple, and the promise of new music ahead. That means he may have a lot more to celebrate by the time his 24th birthday rolls around next year.
In response to all the birthday wishes, Malik tweeted Tuesday afternoon, “Thank you for all my birthday messages! Feeling the love today.” He went on to individually thank some followers who posted creative messages.
